He was chasing a criminal.

She was fleeing the law.

One accident made their worlds collide.

An accident on a frozen highway brings two strangers together. Nate Morrison has no recollection of what placed him on that icy stretch so far from home. In his line of business, memory loss was unacceptable and accountability was crucial.

Upon her parents’ death, Emily Brennan became the sole guardian of her brilliant, yet eccentric brother. Her devotion to protect him from a world that shunned the abnormal made her do the unthinkable. She stole designs from National Marine Dynamics…and now she was on the run.

Only an hour from the promise of safety, Emily witnesses the car behind her spin out of control on an icy stretch of highway. Fear dictated that she should flee, but the body slumped on the shoulder of the road appealed to her humanity.

Emily and Nate are two strangers thrown together by an errant patch of ice. Would the truths of their identities tear them apart or would they unite in battle against an egomaniac that threatened the safety of innocent civilians.

Previously released as BORROWED TIME. Revised by the author in 2015.

LOST NIGHT edition by Maureen A Miller Romance eBooks

Brian is one the heads of security for National Marine Dynamics, a corporation who has several major Defense Department contracts. He is involved in an accident when a ginger-haired angel stays by him, and holds his hand. When he awakens in the hospital, she's still there. What he doesn't remember at first was why he was on the highway, and who she is.

Emily Brennen is an engineer at the same company and so is her brother, Colin, who is mildly idiot savant, and a genius. She steals his plans from the company because Colin knows not only are his plans incomplete, but the machine is dangerous. She doesn't want to see anyone hurt, and neither does her brother. What they don't count on is how merciless one member of the corporation is, or what lengths he will go to in order to retrieve what was stolen.

The accident was a act of kismet; two people who were meant to be together get their chance. Their connection is instant, a moment out of time. What starts out to be a case of retrieval for Brian, becomes a race against time to save her, and her brother. With his body still suffering from its limitations from the accident, will he be strong enough to pull all of them through alive? He feels so much for Emily, and hopes she feels the same. Will they get their chance when it's all over?

I was really impressed with this novel. The action never stops, and though you're pretty sure the ending is going to be a good one, you aren't really certain how the hero is going to pull it off. Although there are no love scenes, there is plenty of sensual tension, and several toe-curling kisses. Thank you Ms. Miller for a very entertaining read! Very highly recommended!

LOST NIGHT edition by Maureen A Miller Romance eBooks Reviews

Borrowed Time is a solid piece of romantic suspense. Emily Brennan must protect her brilliant, eccentric brother Colin from a greedy military weapons developer. Brian Morrison is the security officer first bent on catching Emily and later protecting her. Maureen Miller does a nice job of weaving the necessary danger elements and the growing attraction between her hero and heroine. I especially enjoy her way with descriptions and mood. The story moves along at a compelling pace to keep the reader wondering what will happen next. The McGuffin of the piece is a high-tech submersible that Colin designed. The technical elements seemed plausible and believable. The back story emotional motivations for the characters also worked and were introduced in bits and pieces along the way. I would have liked to have seen the bad guy go down with a bit more drama, but, all in all, it is a satisfying read. A nice book to cozy up with on a cold winter night. Enjoy.
I enjoyed the book, but would not have been happy had I spent more than .99 on it.
On the plus side, Colin, Emily & Brian were all characters that I cared about. I liked that Brian got along with Colin and Ben.

On the minus side, there were a few places where things happened that surprised me - and felt like a huge, unexplained leap. Like how did anyone surprise Brian by getting into the "safe place" they were in, without him hearing? That was just pretty bizarre to me. Right in the middle of his sentence?

Also, at the end, there was no explanation of how they got out of the situation they were in. One minute we were in the office, in the middle of the fight, and the next minute at home, and it was over.
This book put me definitely in a difficult position because there were some highlights but in general it didn't really persuade me.

Firstly, the main characters of the book were very nice. Emily Brennan is a self-confident young woman who has been trying after their parents' death to take care of her brother Coline, who is a brilliant scientist but whose attitude is a bit out of this world. She gets involved in an accident and "meets" Brian Morrison, who is injured during the accident. These three main characters were nicely introduced and portrayed. However, I somehow had the impression that something was missing, although I couldn't really point out what exactly it was.

Secondly, the plot of the story had a lot of potential, where the romance and the suspense part were well balanced, even though no twists and turns were offered in neither of both parts. However, the romance was a bit rushed, and without any atmosphere (and no sizzling or toe curling sex scenes). The suspense part wasn't neither outstanding nor gripping and at some points even confusing and tedious.

I didn't mind that the story line was implausible - in any case I firmly believe it's exclusively the author's right and choice what s/he decides to write about. Provided of course that whatever the choice it's well elaborated and "believably" developed. Hence, the more implausible the plot the more detailed explanations, without killing the atmosphere would be necessary. At least I personally believe that's what makes a good book. I think this was the biggest lack in Miller's book The suspense part was very implausible and not well enough refined, whereas the main characters who were supposed to succeed the "unbelievable" were "more real" and very realistically described, thus creating a discrepancy that just didn't sit right.

In any case, the book had its nice moments and surely offers some nice hours of relaxing.
Emily Brennan has always looked after her book smart, definitely not street smart, eccentric engineer brother leaving little time to have a life of her own. Protecting him against what appears to be an overzealous opportunistic boss, Emily finds herself submerged in a race for their lives. Ex national intelligence officer turned company man Brian Morrison is sent to apprehend the brother and sister. One accident, a little amnesia and successfully finding the people he was sent to find, Brian realizes they should be running and makes the decision to run with them. Love, trust issues and staying alive become foremost......
